Today was all about that #flowerpower at #SurryHillsFestival – big hi-fives to all the legends who helped #TeamClover put this together – including my favourite floral fantasy-maker @bloommountainsdesigns & illustrator/map-maker extraordinaire @matthewrodeo – & my buddies @jessmillersydney @julialenton

️️️️️️️️️️ We checked out Frida Escobedo’s exquisite #SerpentinePavilion yesterday: made from concrete roof tiles, it was designed to emulate the breezeways & courtyards of traditional Mexican houses, and aligned to the Greenwich meridian (that’s the line the pool follows). Liam the excellent security guy says that during the 38 degree heatwave days, it was still 20 degrees inside. The most serene & elegant pavilion I’ve experienced. ️️️️️️️️️

My favourite thing about the Germanic countries are the Kleinegartens or Schrebergartens, lil summer houses and gardening allotments that you find on the edges of cities and rail tracks. {{{Not pictured: sweaty grumpy us tramping thru backwoods with luggage after railway dramzzzz

“I designed the kitchen as an architect, not a housewife.” My big discovery of y’day was Austria’s first female architect, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky. In 1926 she invented the “Frankfurt Kitchen”, which has become the prototype of pretty much every kitchen ever, then during the war she travelled *into* Nazi Austria to try and aid the resistance movement. #hero #deadsetlegend #archibroad

The French Pavilion celebrates places that *take place* & keep on giving, calling them ~Infinite Places~ "Perhaps infinite places are places where enough attributes have been put in place to encourage life, through a snowball effect, to grow and develop. But we should resist the temptation to define infinite places. We should, rather, "un-define" them, simply drawing up an inventory that lists those sharing one chief characteristic: an acceptance of the unexpected in order to construct, uninterrupted, the possibilities of the future." #biennalearchitettura2018

Ireland smashed it outta the park with Free Market, all about reclaiming the market squares of small towns as public spaces (they're mostly carparks rn & it's a bit grim). Awards too for best diagram ever #freespace #biennalearchitettura2018

So I'm at the #biennalearchitectura wooooooooahhh! Pls prepare for an #urbanerd overload: starting with the legendary Elemental feat. Alejandro Aravena, the best thing outta Chile since Nicolas Jaar. This bangin' toon is a 7-point plan for prioritising public space in cities (& not just rich ones) & allowing #freespace for ppl to DIY…

This lil jewel is part of a show on right now @australiandesigncentre is this show by @joshua_smith_street_artist, celebrating moments of unlikely urban loveliness. I'll be hosting a panel there next Wednesday on "The Beauty of Urban Decay", with a bunch of interesting people including City historian Dr Lisa Murray, Shaun Carter & Gonzalo Vallente. Pls check out ADC for more!
